About the Bursary
The Sappi Engineering Bursary is designed to support students pursuing careers in engineering and forestry science.
The bursary covers essential study costs and provides additional opportunities such as vacation work and entry into Sappi’s Engineer-in-Training programme after successful completion.
Fields Covered
Sappi bursaries are awarded for the following qualifications:
- Chemical Engineering (BSc / BEng)
- Civil Engineering (BSc / BEng)
- Electrical Engineering (BSc / BEng)
- Industrial Engineering (BSc / BEng)
- Mechanical Engineering (BSc / BEng)
- Mechatronics Engineering (BSc / BEng)
- Forestry and Wood Science (BSc)
Bursary Benefits
The bursary may cover:
- Tuition fees
- Study books
- Accommodation
- Living allowance
Note: The bursary value depends on the student’s household income.
Additional Benefits

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be between 17 and 25 years old
- Be in Matric or have completed Matric
- Achieve:
- 70% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy)
- 70% in Physical Science
- 60% in English
- Intend to study full-time at a Sappi-supported university
Selection Preference
Preference will be given to:
- Students from communities near Sappi operations
- Applicants who meet or exceed academic requirements
