ABOUT THE COMPANY – THALES
Thales, founded in 2000, is a French multinational company, partially state-owned by the French government, that designs and builds electrical systems and provides services for the aerospace, defence, transportation and security markets.
The company has operations in more than 56 countries and has been operating in South Africa for over 40 years. Thales Southern Africa is a leader in digital security, providing technologically advanced solutions for the aerospace, transportation, defence and security domains.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
Thales Southern Africa are launching their first bursary scheme for 2021 studies, and will thus be awarding 2 types of bursaries:
1) Bursary for
BSc Computer Science (specialising in IT)
. Students with a passion and dedication to the IT sector, who would like to become part of the Thales, team are encouraged to apply.
2) Bursary for
Black female students, for Bachelor degree in ANY field of study

MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE, SERVICE CONTRACT & SELECTION
Both bursaries will provide coverage for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, exam fees, allowance for accommodation (equal to the average rate for a single room in university residence – rate will be determined by Thales and the university), allowance for meals (based on 3 meals per day, as determined by the university) and an allowance for book and pocket money (approximately R10 000 per year)
prescribed textbooks, study materials, accommodation, meals and an allowance for general living expenses.
Once students have graduated, they will have the opportunity to take part in a 1-year internship programme with Thales.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview and must be willing to undergo psychometric testing if required.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
1) Bursary for
BSc Computer Science (specialising in IT)
:
South African citizen
In possession of a valid ID number
Currently in Matric OR have completed Matric
Studying or intend on studying full-time towards a BSc Computer Science degree, specialising in IT
Studying or registered to study at a university in South Africa
Achieved a minimum of a Level 4 for English (First Language) OR a minimum of Level 5 for English (Second Language) in Grade 11
Achieved a minimum of a Level 7 for Mathematics AND a minimum of Level 6 for Physical Science in Grade 11
2) Bursary for
Black female students, for Bachelor degree in ANY field of study
:
South African citizen
Black female
In possession of a valid ID number
Currently in Matric OR have completed Matric
Studying or intend on studying full-time towards a Bachelors degree, in ANY field of study
Studying or registered to study at a university in South Africa
Achieved a minimum of a Level 4 for English (First Language) OR a minimum of Level 5 for English (Second Language) in Grade 11
Achieved a minimum of a Level 7 for Mathematics AND a minimum of Level 6 for Physical Science in Grade 11
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY
Students who meet the minimum eligibility criteria, must apply by sending a motivational letter (which should introduce yourself and describe your desire to study), via email to the Thales HR Department:

The Thales HR Department will assess your motivational letter and thereafter send you more details on how to apply, which supporting documents you should submit, as well as the terms and conditions of the Thales bursary.
Please ensure that you have clear copies of the following supporting documentation, as these may be required:
ID document (certified copy)
Matric certificate (certified copy)
Full tertiary academic record (certified copy)
Proof of tertiary acceptance (on letterhead)
