Overview of Walter Sisulu Municipality Internship Programme 2026
Walter Sisulu Local Municipality is offering an exciting opportunity for unemployed graduates to join its Municipal Financial Management Internship Programme (MFMIP).
This is a 36-month structured internship programme aimed at equipping graduates with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in municipal finance and internal audit.
The programme is based within the Budget and Treasury Office, providing valuable exposure to public sector financial management systems.
Internship Details
- Position: Municipal Financial Management Interns (X2)
- Department: Budget and Treasury Office
- Duration: 36 months (3 years)
- Stipend: R90,000 β R100,000 per annum (all-inclusive)
- Location: Walter Sisulu Local Municipality, Eastern Cape

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- National Diploma or Degree in:
- Cost and Management Accounting
- Internal Auditing
- Financial Accounting (BCom)
- Economics
Selection Criteria
Preference will be given to candidates who:
- Are unemployed graduates
- Reside within the Walter Sisulu Local Municipality area
- Are between the ages of 21 and 35 years
- Are from previously disadvantaged groups
Key Responsibilities
Interns will:
- Be placed within Budget and Treasury or Internal Audit units
- Gain practical experience in municipal finance
- Participate in structured training and development
- Complete workplace assignments
- Study financial policies and procedures
- Work under the guidance of mentors and supervisors
