About the Microsoft Data Center Technician Internship Programme

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) division is offering exciting internship opportunities for aspiring Data Center Technicians in South Africa.

The programme gives interns practical exposure to Microsoft’s global cloud infrastructure that powers services such as:

• Microsoft Azure
• Office 365
• Xbox
• OneDrive
• Bing

Interns will gain hands-on experience working in modern data center environments while learning from experienced technicians and engineers.

Responsibilities

Successful interns will:

• Assist with installing, troubleshooting, replacing, and decommissioning server and network equipment
• Learn and follow data center policies and procedures
• Complete assigned support tickets
• Participate in daily safety briefings
• Support equipment maintenance and operational activities
• Work collaboratively with technical teams across shifts
• Escalate technical, safety, or security incidents when required
• Complete all required technical and safety training

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• High School Diploma / Grade 12 or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components
• Interest in IT equipment or related technology
• Studying towards a relevant technical qualification
• Must be a South African citizen or have legal residency and permission to work in South Africa

Preferred Qualifications

The following will be advantageous:

• CompTIA A+, Server+, or Network+ certifications
• Basic Structured Cabling certification
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments
• Good written and verbal English communication skills
• Strong willingness to learn and grow technical skills
• Flexibility to work weekends, shifts, and public holidays when required

Background Check Requirements

Successful candidates must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon employment and every two years thereafter.
