Job Purpose
The purpose of the apprenticeship is to assist qualified electricians and the maintenance team with installing, maintaining and repairing electrical and automated equipment used in FMCG production plants.
The apprentice will receive practical training and workplace exposure to help them develop the skills required to become a qualified electrician.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful apprentice will assist electricians with the maintenance and repair of production machinery.
Duties will include helping to install and maintain motors, sensors, conveyors and control panels.
The apprentice will also assist with troubleshooting electrical faults on manufacturing equipment.
Other responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance on electrical and automated systems and supporting the maintenance team during machine breakdowns to reduce downtime.
Technical Exposure
The apprentice will assist with PLC panels, drives and industrial control systems.
They will learn how to read and interpret electrical diagrams, wiring diagrams and schematics.
The successful candidate will also help with testing electrical circuits and equipment using testing instruments.
All work must follow health, safety and food-safety regulations in the factory.
The apprentice will also be expected to keep tools, spare parts and work areas clean and organised.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have Matric / Grade 12.
Applicants must have an N2 to N6 Electrical Engineering qualification.
Applicants must have basic knowledge of industrial electrical systems.
Candidates must be able to work shifts in a factory environment.
Applicants must also understand safety standards in manufacturing plants.
Skills Required
Applicants should have electrical troubleshooting skills.
Basic industrial automation knowledge will be important.
Candidates must have strong attention to detail.
Applicants must be able to work under pressure during breakdowns.
The successful candidate must also be able to work well with production and maintenance teams.
