Overview of the BOCMA Internship Programme 2026

The Breede-Olifants Catchment Management Agency (BOCMA) Internship Programme 2026 is a highly valuable opportunity for graduates who want to build careers in environmental management, water resource planning, and engineering.

This programme is implemented in partnership with the Energy and Water SETA (EWSETA), offering structured workplace training over 24 months. Interns will gain hands-on experience in water governance, sustainability, and infrastructure planning within one of South Africa’s key water management institutions.

About BOCMA

BOCMA is a public entity established under the National Water Act, responsible for managing water resources within the Breede-Olifants catchment.

Internship Fields Available

BOCMA offers opportunities across three main streams:

1. Water Resources Management (WRM) – ×10 Positions

Relevant qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resources Management
  • Environmental Science or related fields
  • BSc Honours in:
    • Microbiology
    • Chemistry
    • Biochemistry

This stream focuses on water quality monitoring, environmental compliance, and sustainability.

2. Water Resource Planning – Hydrology / Geology (×2 Positions)

Applicants must have:

  • Master’s Degree in:
    • Hydrology
    • Hydrogeology
    • Geology

This stream supports technical modelling and long-term water planning.

3. Water Resource Planning – Engineering (×2 Positions)

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Agricultural Engineering

Engineering interns assist with infrastructure planning and water systems development.

Internship Duration and Stipend

  • Duration: 24 months (fixed-term contract)
  • Monthly Stipend:
    • R7 500 (NQF Level 7–8)
    • R10 000 (NQF Level 9)

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens
  • Be 35 years or younger
  • Be unemployed
  • Hold a relevant qualification
  • Have at least 60% academic average in final year
  • Not have participated in any previous internship (public or private sector)
